10/30-Wolverine speed skater Wade Newman married a very lovely (quad) skater named Cindy Johnston on Saturday, September 22, 2006 in a fairy tale setting under sunny skies at the historic Castle Farms in Charlevoix, MI. The best man was Lee Corney (who also married a Wolverine at the time when he met her.) Pictures here.
We wish the Newmans all the best as they roll side by side through their lives together!
10/14-Sara Rehklau, 11, participated in the 4th annual Northshore Inline Half Marathon in Duluth, MN on 9/15/07. The weather was a balmy 28 degrees at 6:45 a.m. when the 400-plus skaters hit the start line. The course followed the Lake Superior shoreline then turned onto London Road into a residential portion of Duluth. Continuing on London Road, the course merged onto I-35 where the skaters passed through 3 tunnels, finally turning onto Lake Ave. and into a brisk head wind. They followed the course through the parking lot and around the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) to arrive 13.1 miles later at the finish. Sara finished an astounding 12th overall! This accomplishment not only gave her first in her 11/12-age division, but also put her ahead of all the 205 female finishers in the race (not to mention all the male skaters she left in her wake!) The awards ceremony was held later in the day at the DECC where Sara received 2 medals to add to her collection. She now holds the record as the youngest female to finish first overall in the 4-year history of the event. CONGRATULATIONS!
9/10-We need volunteers to help put down a new coat of roll-on. Contact Coach Jay.
9/8-NEW-Call to all Wolverines of the past decade or so, and or friends of Eva McCrum. Eva and Husband are leaving us for better sites, sound, enjoyment and probably most importantly Pay $$$$. They will be leaving us Sept 30th 2007. Eva though plans on remaining a Wolverine if what ever place she finds she can skate at will let her. So the cool thing about that is that everything else dealing with the move maybe better but not the speed team and her team loyalty and spirit. Before that move we are planning a MAKE EVA CRAZY NIGHT ( I will let you all figure out how we can all do that. It Has to be within the next three weekends before the big move so let me know ASAP if this is okay with you folks. Dinner drinks and what not to get Eva CRAZY/HAPPY - Jay
