As summer finally arrives bringing hot humid weather the Great Skate Wolverines Speed Team is making final preparation for the National Championships in Lincoln Nebraska. Most of those competing will be traveling to Lincoln on Sat 7/15 for the week long competition returning the following Sunday or a few days later. Those who have supported the team presently and in years past will be kept informed on the goings on at the championship hopefully through this web site or via a link from here to one that has all the results. If anything there will be daily pictures posted here from the championships of those competing from the team. All in all as usual it should be a fun, life experiencing event.
So what to do when we are gone for those of you who are not going? STAY in shape. We will not stop skating indoors or outdoors when it is all said and DONE. But we will get back to putting more fun into all of it and get lets say a little less serious.
There will be a schedule to follow of skate, riding, running, swimming, fun training sessions to follow up this announcement in a few weeks. In it will be events like a group skate through the Royal Oak community and surrounding cities (streets that are freshly paved.) Same with Detroit maybe for us adults a few stops at LOCAL PUBS along the way, you may want to bring a designated skater. For those that cannot skate bring your bike and follow us. MT. Bike touring through various parks in the Metro Detroit area and even up North. Outdoor Practices with Robb...though can Robb be less serious in helping to get Kelly and Jessica ready for Worlds. Maybe he will join us on the pub crawl skating dates?
We are also going to be having a few fund raisers to help defer cost of World Championships for those going. For starters a digital disc year book and a monthly new letter, if you are interest and not seen with the team lots please send us your name phone number, email address etc. etc so as that we can send you the specs when all is dialed in.
On that note for those of you who have vacation time available and some $$$$ to go with it, why not take your Vacation in Anyang South Korea watching sport you love. Tickets for some reason from Detroit to Seoul are cheaper than flying from the West coast. Rooms are reasonable and trust me when I say it is loads of fun. Besides we have two athletes representing and your support being there directly would do nothing but help out.
Lastly looking for volunteers to help in DEMOSKATION EVENTS at the Great Skate starting early fall through till the winter to help promote the sport and gain new members to the beginner and elite programs. Let us know.
Have a great start to summer and be safe.
