February 2007
Hey All
Just returned home from Winter Nationals, team did pretty well, though most of us did not like the small floor ;) me included. I feel lucky that I finally made it there at all. I guess getting to an event some 18 hours after I am suppose to is not to bad, I could have not made it at all right??? Let us just say with everything that was going wrong I was freaked out my whole flight there. I also did not like having a heat and final as my warm up for the meet needless to say, do not forget your new wheels guys and girls like I did, your practice wheels will not work at competition, LOLOLOL. How long have I been skating.
Anyway, props to all whom competed, you all showed that though our team may not be as big and or elite as it has been in the past, we are still here and competing and letting everyone know that the Wolverine tradition is alive and skating fast.
We had a total of 12 athletes competing at this event and most of us managed to come home with win, place, show and or personal best. I believe that everyone skated to the best of their ability which is all I will ever ask of anyone, small floor and all.
It is February and some skater's from other teams looked as if Nationals was tomorrow while others looked like they are in the middle of their training. For our team we sort of hit all levels of this though in reality though this was called "Winter Nationals" so.........there is always room for improvement in any and all aspects.
A big thanks to Robb Dunn for his "Consultation" help to all of us, Robb it is much appreciated.
Also a big thanks to all the Skating Station People for the rides to and from the Hotel. If it were not for you guys many of us would have been walking to the rink.
I was hoping to have pictures from this event up for everyone to see but I left my camera in the car at the airport.
Speaking of cars and airport Amy has a funny story to tell everyone, let's just say she thought she was going to jail based on my actions LOLOLOLOL. I am sure I will never live this down, she is going to be a prosecutor but she at times seems like a persecutor. Maybe that should be her stage name for roller derby.
Would like to let you all know of the return of Clidey Gilbey as a Wolverine again, though he lives in Virginia, Clyde has decided that he missed the sport and is with us again. He has Brought to us a new team member by the Name of Tim Downey who use to skate quads a long, long time ago. Tim showed that he is a fast skater though the inline thing is a bit odd for all of us who skated on "ROLLER SKATES". Would also like to welcome Joel whom I guess based on Tim and Clyde's comments needs to get on the ball and get rolling.
Props to Sara for competing and doing well in a tough Novic elementary girls division and congrats on placing in the pick a partner relays.
BOOOOOOOOOCCCCCHHHHHHHH though he took Tim out of the 500m heat, skated well and showed what he can do after lots of hard training.
BJ, AMY, Clyde, Sara, Megan, Zac, Tim, Joe, Josh, and Gabe all competed well some, won while others placed and or meet their personal best in division. We won a few relays while going for the 2nd and 3rd in others.
Megan Steketee and Zac Jone, the littlest out of the Wolverine bunch stayed true to the Wolverine tradition again showing that hard work and never giving up produces greatness. They were outsized, out-aged, and skated against kids much faster than them, but they managed to do everything, I mean everything perfect and ended up with a 3rd placement.
Abi Steketee let it be known that she will be competing at the next competition. Dining with this little one was interesting; though we both had the same type of cake mine must have looked more appetizing.
Hey our team has always been like a family I shared, really I did, though I am not sure though if I really had a choice ;). Till the next meet
Jay
Thanks you and
Have a Great Day
